This vorici calculator calculates the cheapest way to achieve your desired socket colors by comparing two main strategies:
1. Pure Spam: Using only Chromatic Orbs.
2. Hybrid Method: Using a Crafting Bench recipe to guarantee some colors, then spamming Chromatics for the rest.

Calculations are based on the well-established multinomial probability formula for PoE socket coloring. The item's attribute requirements heavily influence the weighting of socket colors (e.g., a STR base is far more likely to roll Red sockets).

— A Developer’s In-Depth Breakdown

Hi, I’m Moiz, the creator of this Vorici Chromatic Optimizer. I built this tool because I wanted a precise, math-based solution to one of the most frustrating mechanics in Path of Exile — getting the right socket colors on the wrong gear.

I’ve played PoE long enough to know the pain of burning hundreds of Chromatic Orbs just to get something like “3 blue on a Strength chest.” The idea that socket coloring is random always felt wrong to me. So I went deep — into game mechanics, probability theory, and community-sourced data — and built this tool to make coloring logical, transparent, and trustworthy.

Let me explain, step-by-step, exactly how this works and why you can trust it.


🎯 1. Socket Color Rolls Aren’t Random — They’re Weighted by Item Attributes

The first thing I confirmed is that Chromatic Orb results are not random.

Every item in PoE has invisible color weights based on its attribute requirements — Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, or a combination.

This was confirmed long ago in a developer post by GGG, and later modeled in detail by the PoE community, particularly in this section on the PoE Wiki. These probabilities are now well-accepted across tools like:

  • VoriciCalculator.com (now offline)

  • CraftofExile.com

  • Google Sheets used by high-end crafters in the PoE Math Discord

I use precise socket color weights based on the best-available community modeling:

  • Strength-based: ~81.82% red

  • Dexterity-based: ~81.82% green

  • Intelligence-based: ~81.82% blue

  • Hybrid bases split these percentages accordingly (e.g., STR/INT = 50% red, 50% blue)

I didn’t guess these numbers — they come from statistical analysis, reverse-engineered from tens of thousands of socketing results over the years.


📐 2. I Used Real Math: Multinomial Probability Theory

Once I had the weights, I needed to calculate the actual chance of rolling a certain color combination — like 3 blue, 2 red, and 1 green — on a 6-socket item.

To do this, I implemented the multinomial probability formula, which is standard in statistics when calculating the likelihood of multiple outcomes from repeated independent events.

The formula looks like this:

Where:

  • n is the total number of sockets

  • r, g, b are the counts of red, green, and blue sockets you want

This isn’t a PoE-specific thing — it’s actual math used in genetics, machine learning, and combinatorics. I wrote the logic in JavaScript so it runs instantly in your browser.

🛠️ 3. I Modeled Every Vorici Bench Craft Option

What most tools lack is integration with bench crafts, which can make coloring significantly cheaper.

So I manually added all known Vorici socket mods, including:

  • “At least 1 Red” – 4 Chromatics

  • “At least 2 Green” – 25 Chromatics

  • “At least 3 Blue” – 120 Chromatics

  • “At least 1 Red and 1 Green” – 15 Chromatics
    …and many more.

These crafts are listed on the PoE Crafting Bench Wiki and visible in-game once you’ve unlocked Vorici in your hideout. I stored them as objects in the code so the calculator can:

  1. Check if your desired socket combo matches any bench craft.

  2. Subtract guaranteed colors from the calculation.

  3. Roll the rest using multinomial probability.

  4. Add the crafting cost (in Chromatics) to the expected rolling cost.

This makes the tool a hybrid optimizer — it compares pure rolling versus bench + rolling and shows you the cheapest path.


🧪 4. I Simulate the Actual Crafting Process

For those who want to see the system in action, I built a 1-click simulation. When you hit “Simulate 1 Chrome,” the tool rolls each socket using real probabilities and shows you what you got.

It also flags whether the outcome matches your desired combo — so you can simulate “3 blue on STR” and immediately see how rare it is.

Each result is logged using color-coded symbols (●), just like the in-game aesthetic.

This part is purely visual, but it’s grounded in the exact same math used in the cost calculation.

Why simulate?

Because even with the math, it helps visually prove how hard or easy a craft might be — especially when the chance is below 1%.
